More Springtime Progress

16 04 2010

Although the outside of our new building addition has been buttoned up for a few months now, we’ve seen daily changes on the inside! Over these last few weeks, we’ve watched as plumbers, painters, HVAC technicians, fire safety guys, ceiling hangers, electricians, flooring contractors and bathroom fixture installers have all scurried around. There’s a real sense of excitement as each small project gets completed and the interior takes shape. At this stage, the painting of the large room, the classrooms, the bathrooms, and the kitchen is almost completed. The doors have been hung and painted, along with the hardware. The lights are in and working. The electrical outlets, exit signs, and other trim work have all been installed. In the next few weeks the flooring will be laid, the kitchen appliances and cabinetry will be installed, and the bathrooms will be completed. We’re closing in on it! Here are some brand-new pictures of the building progress. Praise the Lord for his great blessings!

March Progress!

26 03 2010

We continued to see progress on the building this month, with a number of projects getting started and nearly completed. The HVAC (heating and air handling) for the large room, the bathrooms, the classrooms, and the kitchen is installed and almost completely finished. Our painters, Kevin and Wendy Cleveland, have been working hard to finish up the painting in the large room and bathrooms, and will begin with the kitchen and classrooms in the next few days. Flooring has been ordered, as well as kitchen cabinets and counter-tops. Bathroom, lighting, and trim fixtures are all on their way. It’s amazing to think that only a few months ago, we were still looking at a flat slab of concrete! Praise God for the good progress! Continue to pray for a resolution to our fire-suppressant water-line issue. We’re currently looking at some potential alternatives. If you missed our building walkthrough video a few weeks ago, you can watch it by clicking here.

Pictures Show Progress

24 02 2010

I just took another “tour” of the new building addition feeling a little like Nehemiah as he surveyed the construction of the walls around the city Jerusalem.  Although we are well past the 52 days it took to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, there is good progress day-by-day. Currently, the drywall is in place and the spackling and sanding nearly done.  It’s really taking shape as the multi-purpose room (which looks really big!) and the enlarged kitchen and restrooms are close to having ceiling fixtures installed prior to painting and the flooring being put down. We are on track to be able to occupy by May, providing the high pressure water line for the new sprinkler system can be secured.  Consistent effort is being put toward solving the water line issue, so please continue praying about that real need.

Mark Sunday, March 7, on your calendars. There will be a Gathering that evening at 5:30 during which a building progress report will be shared complete with pictures!  We wish everyone could tour the addition, but the hazards of construction prohibit that for now.  For building progress photos, look at the bulletin board outside the addition in the main hallway just past the mailboxes—and come to the Gathering on the 7th.

Things are shaping up!

5 02 2010

Now that the walls are up, the insulation is installed, and the drywall is being hung, the addition is starting to really take shape! We’ve seen progress every day this week. Today, the drywall men are working in the two new bathrooms (right behind the temporary wall in the upstairs mailbox hallway) and preparing the kitchen to be insulated. The large room is almost completely drywalled and taping and mudding started today too. In the next few weeks, we’ll begin to see paint, flooring, and drop ceilings installed, as well as kitchen and bathroom fixtures. Praise the Lord for good progress! Continue to pray for a resolution to our fire-suppressant water-line issue. Also, as of last week, over $130,000 has been given toward the Biblical Stewardship Initiative fund. God continues to bless us!

Here are some pictures of this week’s building progress.

The “inside” of what’s going on with the new building…

20 01 2010

Although the outside of the new building hasn’t changed much lately, there’s been good progress on the inside.  In the past few weeks plumbing, electrical and HVAC contractors have been busy at work. In addition, Jeff Hash, Bob Kirby, Skip Schneider, and Pastor Jason completed the preliminary A-V wiring. Last week we passed the inspection of these installations and this week insulation began. The entire ceiling is insulated and the walls are next.  After that, it will be time for the drywall and before long it will look more like the new multi-purpose building we have envisioned. As we approach the 3rd anniversary of the roof collapse (Feb. 17, 2007), we can rejoice that we are within just a few months of occupying the new building which features a large multi-purpose room, classrooms, an enlarged/remodeled kitchen and reconfigured/remodeled restrooms. Here are a few pictures that show the recent progress.

Harvest Sunday and Building Updates

8 12 2009

During Harvest Sunday, we took an opportunity to make personal commitments to God regarding our lives as Saints, Servants, and Stewards.  These commitments are one way that we as believers can live by our faith to become more like him.  Over 50 commitments were made by our body to become more like Christ in 2010 through our personal commitments to spiritual growth and service.  Additionally, $4,000 in new commitments to the BSI stewardship fund over the next 3 years were made.  We rejoice together how God can grow us through our obedience.

On the building side, it’s a blessing to be under roof and “buttoned up” before the first snowfall.  Except for the exterior doors and a few other items like gutters and downspouts, the building looks done from the outside. But, on the inside it’s another story.  Recently, electrical and HVAC contractors have been “doing their thing” in the multi-purpose part of the new building and the new restrooms are beginning to take shape.  We are waiting on some resolution regarding the waterline to the building before the plumbers can begin their work.  That’s something to pray about since it has slowed progress somewhat.  Overall, however, it is encouraging to see things getting done.  Lord willing, after the first of the year we can begin “doing our part” in certain aspects of the building program.

Great Progress!

17 11 2009

How do you spell “progress?”  In the past few weeks there has been very good
progress on our new building thanks to the Lord who has provided
unseasonably good weather and to the Grimm Construction crew that has worked
hard and diligently.  Progress is spelled “weekly lunches” provided for the
crew by various ABFs. The workers are good eaters who have expressed
appreciation for the food.  Their only complaint is that they are eating so
well, perhaps too well, that they want to take a siesta following lunch.
Progress is also spelled “interior work” as the new kitchen and restrooms
area has been gutted, drywall has been put up, and doorways and a pass
through to the large room have been framed out.  Progress is also spelled
“exterior work” as all the windows are in place, the siding is nearly
finished, and the kitchen addition is roofed.  Furthermore, some preliminary
plumbing was done and the electrical wiring has begun.

The Heritage kitchen and interior design sub-committees have been busy in
recent weeks and members of the building committee are meeting weekly with
representatives from Grimm to insure good communication and staying current.
Very soon, the new building will be enclosed and more interior work can be
done.  It won’t be too long before we’ll be having workdays where we can
lend a hand in making progress.

Here are a few snapshots of recent progress:

Under Roof!

28 10 2009

In the past week, roof trusses were delivered and set, sheathing was put down, and the roof was shingled.  That’s progress!  PTL!  The new addition is taking shape.  Furthermore, the kitchen was gutted in preparation for the expansion and remodeling of it.  The bathrooms by the kitchen are next on the “hit list” as they are being remodeled as part of this building project.  It won’t be long before the addition is enclosed with windows and siding as well as the roofing.  The Grimm Construction crew is working hard, rain or shine.  We must be praying hard.  The time will come when we can give a hand, too. Here are some pictures of the progress this week.

Building on the Foundations

6 10 2009

“Above ground” construction began this week with the approval of the permits and the delivery of the first loads of material. Here are some pictures from this last week.

Building Updates

31 08 2009

Praise God for progress on our building over the last few weeks. Here are pictures showing the delivery of our new storage shed, removal of the old concrete slab, and pouring of the new footers and concrete slab. Continue to pray for the salvation and safety of the men who are working on the building, as well as the expediency of the permitting process.
